English Access Micro-Scholarship Program (Access) Closing Ceremony
Date : 2019-11-25KAPE congratulated to host English Access Micro-Scholarship Program (Access) Closing Ceremony in November 2019 at Samdech Hun Sen Peu II high school in Krouch Chmar district, Tbaung Khmum where there were 148 participants attended including Director/Deputy Director of Provincial Office of Education, Youth and Sport of Tbaung Khmum, Director/Deputy Director of District Office of Education, Youth and Sport of Krouch Chmar, Krouch Chmar Board Governor, School Director/ Deputy School Director of Samdech Hun Sen Peu III, authority representatives, communities, student governors, parents and Access students. Access was implemented for 2-year starting from 30 November 2017 to 30 September 2019, aiming to improve students’ knowledge of U.S culture, English language skills and critical thinking skills through creative teaching techniques.
In this 2-year period, the project has achieved as: (1). opening classes run from January 2018 to September 2019; (2). Having 8 hours of intensive English per week; (3). the students learned ICT 2 hours per week; (4). provided intensive training sessions in Kampong Cham and Phnom Penh; (5). Provided the community service projects; (6). provided personal development activities and over 600 instruction hours of instruction for each student; (7). provided scholarship materials such as bicycles, school bags, and English books and (8). provided the hydroponic life skills training. As the result, all 40 ACCESS students have studied about Women’s History when most women in the world did not have the right to vote or access education opportunities. This led to gender inequity throughout many countries. Students are encouraged to learn from these historical experiences and apply the lessons learned to Cambodia. Students also study about the US education system as this relates to school environments and the differences in education between the United States and Cambodia. They successfully graduated and received 2-year identified certificates. This project was supported by the US. Embassy in Phnom Penh. As the good result, the project would be expanded in 2020.
