GEI Scholars attending a 2 year vocational study in Thailand~
Date : 2014-05-22Thanks to a close relationship with Thai colleagues working with Ministry of Education Youth and Sport (MoEYS) and Office of Vocational Education Commission in Bangkok in Thailand, 11 (7 girls) scholars who face with financial problem from different rural area in Kampong Cham Province received scholarship assistance from KAPE through the Girls’ Education Initiative (GEI) program,~ funded by the OakTree Foundation, are appointed by Thai examination committee to study for a two-year vocational degree in Buriram province, Thailand starting in May2014. The GEI scholarship recipients have selected different majors including 1)Hotel and Tourism, 2) Industrial Agriculture, 3) Architecture, 4) Electronics,and 5) Accounting.
KAPE provides scholarship support package to the scholars such as food, accident insurance, health insurance, medical check-up, study materials, school uniform,travel expense, and passport. Whereas; the Thai government will be providing some assistance including free boarding facilities and tuition cost.
On 30thApril, the 11 (7 girls) scholars and a KAPE coordinator arrived in a Buriramcollege of Agriculture and Technology. Surprisingly, there were head ofcolleges and school teachers expressed their warm welcoming to the GEI scholarsand KAPE staff. They introduced to the students about 3 different colleges theywould go and study. All students hadopportunity to introduce their names, addresses, and majors to theparticipants. They were confident in speaking Thai language and happy to attend2 years study in Thailand. The college organized a week tour for the studentsto learn about Thai cultures and visit different colleges and dormitories inBuriram province before their school day.
Thestudents went to a temple called Phnom Rong which it was built many years withnice statues, pagoda, zoo, markets and I-Mobile stadium which is a Buriramprovince representation. Then the students travelled to different colleges tomeet school directors and teachers to present about their school background,curriculum, numbers of beneficiaries, and activities. Next, there was a visitto the classroom and to see facilities there and there was a chance to seetheir dormitory as well.
During thevisit, there was a bedroom stuff donation from royalty to give to ourscholarship students.
Ms. Mealea,an industrial agriculture student said that she would be extremely happy tohave opportunity to get education in Thailand, she had a nice bedroom thatshe’d ever had. She expressed her firm commitment to study hard and to be agood and active student in the class.
On the 12th May, the GEI scholars havestarted their new academic year in Buriram. The students wear school uniform.They are happy with their new school, friends, and teachers.
